Unleash Your Potential: The Top Strategies for Recruitment Consultants to Gain New Business

If I were a Recruitment Consultant, I would not rely solely on cold calling to gain new business. In today’s competitive recruitment market, it’s important to be creative, quick, and professional. Here are some of my ideas for gaining new business:

  1. Utilize my public speaking skills and offer to speak at Career/Job Fairs on contemporary topics such as “How to use Social Media for Recruitment” and “Job Search via Social Media.” This will allow me to target both job seekers and companies.
  2. Make daily cold calls using Yellow Pages and other phone directories, while setting targets to achieve goals quickly.
  3. Stay informed about what’s going on in my city and county by reading newspapers (print and online). If I come across an article about a new business opening in my area, I would approach the management team and find out if there are any vacancies that need to be filled.
  4. If I hear that a recruitment agency is closing down, I would ask them if my company could acquire their database and clients list.
  5. Reading magazines and newspapers would provide me with insider names of companies, allowing me to easily start a conversation by referring to an article I came across. This would help me to establish a relationship with the company in the future.
  6. Use every opportunity to network with people, whether waiting somewhere, dining out, attending a conference, or a party. Opportunities can come up very spontaneously, and a simple conversation might later turn into a great business opportunity.
  7. Pay attention to other companies’ job ads in different types of media, taking note of the person to be contacted (if disclosed) or their email address and offering them my services. I would also maximize my chances by looking at my database to find suitable candidates for their needs. If a company states that they do not want to be approached by recruitment agencies, I would respect their wish.
  8. Utilize the professional network on “LinkedIn” to get in touch with many different professionals quickly, effectively, and professionally.
  9. Create videos with relevant content and publish them on several video-sharing websites such as YouTube and Vimeo. Topics could be for example “How my Recruitment company XYZ can help a company to save time and money” when it comes to hiring decisions.
  10. When networking with people, hand out two business cards every time, giving the person who receives my card the option to forward the other card to someone else who might be hiring or looking for a job.
  11. Maximize my time by meeting with more than one client a day. When visiting a busy shopping mall or business park, I would prepare corporate material in pre-packed envelopes and hand it over personally to the companies. To ensure that the right person receives it, I would ask the receptionist for the decision maker’s name and write it on the envelope.
  12. Use Twitter effectively by following interesting executives, checking out their websites, tweeting about them, retweeting their tweets, and favoring some of their content.
  13. Do a Google search to find growing businesses in my location and get in touch with the decision-makers to turn it into business opportunities.

If I found it difficult to gain new business after implementing these ideas, I would focus on taking care of my existing clients by exceeding their expectations. This would not only help me to meet their hiring needs but also make them spread the word about my services to others. Repeat business is a great business, and it is cheaper to take care of existing clients than to constantly chase new ones.
